The BADL Five

Animal Rights27 Dec 2006 02:10 am

I shot the Behind the Mask screening here in Oakland, at the Humanist Hall. I’m still not sure what organization I shot this for but you should all go to Uncaged Films and buy a copy of this film. It kicks ass! The screening kicked ass as well but I still would have liked to meet Shannon Keith the director face-to-face (she was sick and couldn’t make it)… Next time.

I stole this write up about the film from Indybay (Animal Lib):
“Behind the Mask” explores the history of the animal liberation movement, from its inception to present day. The controversial documentary weaves together the lives of people who face jail, devastation, and even death for their ideals. Animal liberation activists have been called the #1 domestic terror threat by the FBI, even though they claim to have never harmed a living being. The film exposes never-before-seen footage that reveals the extent to which these individuals will go to save the lives of animals. Recent FBI documents revealed that the filmmakers have been under physical and electronic surveillance for years.

I wanted to thank everyone for letting me interview them! YOU ARE ALL MY HEROS!!! And of course Goldfinger yet again for the music. The lead singer John Feldmann is in the film so that’s just one more reason why you should BUY IT!

All footage provided in this video was taken directly from the film Behind The Mask.

It was an honor to edit this commercial for the East Bay Animal Advocates! It is currently being shown on TV on many different networks, tune in and go to www.FosterFacts.net and you be the judge of who the imposter is.Now I have good news and bad news about this commercial. The good news is I was featured in the East Bay Animal Advocates E-Newsletter for it (thanks Christine!). :)

But the bad news is Foster Farms is still treating these poor birds like dog sh*t!
And they have taken it to myspace! Whether you are a fan of myspace or not is not the question. I for one think the site should be reported and this is my blog so I can talk about it if I want to! View the Foster Imposters MySpace site.

And add Foster Compassion’s MySpace site

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”
- John F. Kennedy

Let art guide us through these difficult times…

I woke up today and thought maybe it was all a dream, maybe Congress didn’t pass the AETA. Maybe Kevin isn’t going to prison for starting a website. Maybe 6 very brave activist aren’t going to prison for speaking from their hearts. Maybe I can continue to practice my, new found love of video blogging the local protest, without one day being asked to choose between prison time or rating out my fellow activist, as my friend Josh did. Maybe I couldn’t be raided by the police as many have in the past. Maybe…

I wasn’t so lucky to wake up to that… I only woke up to the reality that this is all true. This is all going on in front of me. This was a chilling reality.

When I first heard of this act I thought: Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, well this targets “terrorist” not activist! But in the eyes of our government I’m a “terrorist”. I try to laugh this off but you can only laugh so hard, for so long, before you are sick.

I’ve been reading Will’s blog (Green Is The New Red) for a while hoping there will soon be good news. No such luck. In fact just today he blogged about how the media itself doesn’t even bat an eye in our direction. Why am I not surprised? The media has never looked our way unless we were standing in below freezing weather naked protesting fur, or have some other “media candy” demo. They didn’t notice us then so why will they notice us now? What the media doesn’t understand, and what they should understand is, now more then ever is the time to notice us! Because this act isn’t just about us, it effects all activists, and I fear by the time they start to notice anything other then “media candy” in activists, it will be too late.

I was asked the question by one of my close friends if I was going to “stop video blogging protest”. “Why?” I replied, to which she said, “Aren’t you afraid?” I told her, “They want me to be afraid. And who am I to give in to them?”
I’m far too stubborn to let a little fear stop me from doing what I love, and what I know in my heart is right. And until our mainstream media wakes up and starts to cover more of our events, I will continue to video blog. And until every cage is empty I will continue to leaflet and protest. Because it’s in my heart!

And besides, I’m far too new at video blogging, and activism, to just throw in the towel this early in the game!

Be safe, be strong, be creative in everyway that you can! AND GO VEGAN!

PS - This is the first time I’ve used this blog to write an article, so please don’t be too harsh on the grammar mistakes! :)

I got the news from Mr. Will Potter’s blog:
GreenIsTheNewRed
I’ll write up something soon… I just need a little time to think!

http://www.greenisthenewred.com/blog/2006/11/13/aeta-passes-house-recap/

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, which risks labeling activists as “terrorists” and would wrap up non-violent civil disobedience and other non-violent activity, has passed the House with virtually no dissent. Here’s a recap on what happened on the House floor.

Best,

Will Potter

BREAKING NEWS

Action Alert –
House Vote on AETA this Monday!

This is your ONLY chance to defeat the Animal Enterprise
Terrorism Act (HR 4239, S3880)!

In a late night move on Friday, AETA was
added to the House Suspension Calendar for THIS Monday!

This underhanded fast-track maneuver, like the one in the
Senate, means that AETA will not have any debate… only an
up/down vote.

Contact your
Representative this weekend and Monday morning!

Identify your House
Rep:
name, fax, e-mail, and phone number at
http://www.house.gov
Then, use our sample letter and/or the talking points below to…

Be a triple hitter for the
animals:

  1. Call direct or use the switchboard 202-225-3121
  2. Fax
  3. E-mail

Remember, all contact info is
at www.house.gov.

Talking Points!

“As your constituent, I strongly urge you
to: (1) vote NO on the Animal Enterprise Terrorism
Act
(HR4239, S 3880), which is currently on the
suspension calendar for 11/13 to be voted on Monday after
6:30pm, and (2) to contact Rep. Sensenbrenner to
remove the bill from the
suspension calendar. The
measure is much too important to pass without
discussion.”

The bill must be opposed for the following
reasons:

  • AETA is opposed by more than 130 animal protection, social
justice, and civil liberty organizations including: National
Lawyers Guild, Humane Society of the U.S., ASPCA, Natural
Resources Defense Council, and the League of Humane Voters. Click
    here for opposition list.
  • AETA deserves a hearing to afford its many opponents a
    voice.
  • AETA denies equal protection under the law and limits
    freedom of speech and assembly.
  • AETA unfairly brands as ‘terrorists’ nonviolent
    animal protection advocates.
  • AETA unfairly brands as ‘terrorism’ nonviolent
    civil disobedience and undercover investigations.
  • AETA invokes excessively harsh penalties for comparable
    offenses.
  • AETA is excessively broad and vague by
    covering innocent parties.
  • AETA may authorize unwarranted wiretapping of animal
    protection advocates.
  • AETA has a chilling effect on all forms of social justice
    and life affirming advocacy.
  • AETA interferes with prosecution of real terrorism against
    the American people.

Join Us for the
Anti-AETA Lobby Day on Monday!

Please join us in Washington, DC for an emergency Anti-AETA
Lobby Day on Monday, November 13, starting at 10 am. Please

Hello everyone! On Friday, September 8th PeTA protested “An Elegant Affair Opera Ball 2006″ in San Francisco. Why you may ask? Well Burberry clothing was a gift sponsor. Burberry may be best known for its distinctive plaid, but its use of real fur is making the design house synonymous with cruelty to animals. Burberry continues to design with fur despite the fact that leading clothing retailers like J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, and others have pulled fur from their stores forever. Animals raised on fur farms are kept in small, filthy cages and exposed to all weather extremes before being killed by gassing, neck-breaking, or genital electrocution. Learn more about what?s wrong with fur at www.FurIsDead.com, or if you watch this you may get a good idea.
